For the life of me I could not find the logic here. The math strategy suggests that the blank should be a synonym for clear, thorough, consistent, right? I ended up picking [B]. I even looked up tidy, and cannot understand why it is correct.

Tidy is used in a different context here. Here, it means the theories are clear and well ordered(tidy,consistent).
Also, assertive doesnt make any sense to me. How can a theory be assertive? I would eliminate it using grammar strategy.
