Beware! ETS’s UI has a trap — and it could cost you the entire exam

While quickly going through the questions, be careful not to exit the section. ETS’s UI does not display any confirmation pop-up when you leave a section. Once you exit, you cannot go back.

The “Next” and “Continue” buttons are in the same position on different pages — one before and one after the section ends. Be cautious when switching between questions. Don’t try to swap too quickly; you might accidentally enter the next section.

I believe ETS has deliberately kept the UI unchanged. How hard would it be to add a simple confirmation pop-up to warn users they’re leaving a section? It’s really frustrating to shuffle through the questions — especially in the verbal section.

Unfortunately, that is true and I can empathetize with this. Fortunately, this is the reason why practice tests are there. It is there to help you gain familiarity of the UI and you can be intentional even on how you leverage the UI. For instance, upon clicking of the calculator then you will get/hide the calculator and where you want to place the calculator etc. I would also advise one to try to stay calm. Personally when I realised that a calm unfrazzled mind helps one to identify small little things that can bamboozle the human eyes. I am also a victim to that. Hope this helps and all the best!
