Understanding of this passage -
I think author is comparing two poems O vs I
and goes on to explain why O was more popular
So, for primary purpose question, I ruled out A, C, D
I was confused between applying classification vs developing a contrast
I chose A) as I thought author maybe classifying two poems but answer is E
how to distinguish between these 2 choices?
Like when to choose classification vs when to choose developing a contrast (reason of not choosing this is, author is not developing a contrast, contrast already exists)
I can’t really comment unless I can see the choices

Classifying would be like labeling them: the Iliad is “epic” and the Odyssey is “romantic”.
I agree “developing” is a bit odd but there is no preexisting contrast between the poems - they are just different poems. The author is the one who tells us they contrast.
