Big book TC pg 330

The techniques now available to livestock breeders
will continue to be -------, but will probably be -----by
new ones under development.
(A) fruitful. .reversed
(B) refined … upgraded
(C) inconvenient… reassessed
(D) used … supplemented
(E) harmless . .improved

Why is ‘B’ wrong? I cannot find the evidence to eliminate ‘B’ and can anyone say what is the difficulty level of this question?
Thank you.

First, what words did you initially filled the blanks with ?
Second, what is the clue for refine ?

Doesn’t the second part of the sentence imply that they are trying to make this technique good?
Thinking this way, I choose refine.

the main clue for blank(i) is continue to be

Also, if you initially guess the blank without looking at the choices then you can use elimination to pinpoint the answer choice that will best fit the blanks , like for my choice for blank(ii) i.e. B D and E all three option make sense but for blank (i) only D make sense, so my final ans = D
