In these types of questions, why can’t we just convert the given area to cm i.e. (12*2=24)

Why do we need to convert the dimensions first ?

The dimensions of the area are units^{2}. In this case, it will be cm^{2}.

So, indeed, you can convert the area to cm^{2} by multiplying by 2×2 = 4.

Since 1m = 2cm

12 m^{2} = 12 × (2) × (2) = 48 cm^{2}
