Hi - For this question, I put answer C as correct because her criticism is incorrect on the grounds that it misunderstood the notions of how to classify black identity in fiction. I also eliminated D because I interpreted the answer choice as it got rid of political criteria and replaced it with literary criteria. The answer is D because I interpreted the answer choice incorrectly but I’m still wondering why C couldn’t be an answer.

The purpose of the line about Addison Gayle is to be an example for the “As Rosenblatt notes…” line. The author never mentioned anything about how Addison Gayle interpreted the Black writings, which is why C cannot be an answer.
