Big Book: Test 26 - Sec 1 - Question 8

I always have a lot of doubt about solving number line questions like this. Would be super grateful for any help provided when approaching something like this problem.

Given → PQ = 13 and x - y = 1 or x = 1+y

From the question we can see that PQ is made up of 3x + 2 y = 13

Substituting x = 1+y:

3(1+y) +2y =13\\ 3+3y+2y=13\\ 5y=10\\ \bf{y=2}

Now, substituting y = 2 in x-y =1

x-y=1\\ x-2=1\\ x=3
