Big Book Test 3 Section 3 Q5

A war, even if fought for individual liberty and democratic rights, usually required that these principles be _____, for they are _____ the regimentation and discipline necessary for military efficiency.

1.espoused, contrary to
2.suppressed, fulfilled through
3. suspended, incompatible with
4. followed, disruptive of
5. rejected, inherent in

With Math Strategy, I thought B1 and B2 would be contrasting each other. HOWEVER, with the previously referenced strategy using the “for” between the 2 blanks - both blanks should be synonyms. And thus, I chose C (which happens to be correct)

Please help me solve this through math strategy or pls tell me whats wrong in my approach to it?

Even if (-1) then liberty(+1) - ___(negative word)
for (+) discipline regimentation (+) - ____ (positive word for blank 2)

In this sentence:

  • The green and blue ideas contrast
  • The blue and red ideas support

If we rephrase the green idea, it says “the war is taught for freedom and rights”

B1 needs to be a word so that the WHOLE BLUE IDEA (not just the blank) contrasts this, something like “reduced”, so B, C and E work.

Now, the red idea needs to support the idea of “freedom and rights need to be suppressed in wars”, so the blank should be something like “unhelpful for”, so A, C, and D work.

We can see only C works for both blanks.
