So using synonym of fragile we can choose (B) sensitive and eliminate options A,C,D,E.

But!!!

changes in fashion & public taste that are often _______ and resistant to analysis

How do I break this sentence down?
Cause by using Math strategy on Blank (i) by focusing on and we get:

  1. Often___ and 2.resistant to analysis

Both 1 and 2 are supposed to say the same thing. Since they are resistant to analysis, means they are fickle/changing too quickly to be gauged and hence resistant to analysis. Additionally the contrast for the second blank is with resistant to analysis. Although these changes are happening too quickly(resistant to analysis) they are amongst the most sensitive(quick to detect or respond to slight changes, signals, or influences) gauges. (Not fragile as you pointed out)

Is resistant to analysis an idiom? I am not sure how can I relate resistant to analysis as fickle (I can hear Greg saying, “Don’t tell yourself a story”). Jk, this looks like something you develop with experience. Would appreciate any suggestion for sources that list such phrases/idioms. Thanks for taking the time

Hey, do not complicate it. Something that is resistant to analysis means something that is just difficult to analyse and something that’s ever changing would definitely won’t be stable enough to do an analysis upon and hence fickle. Additionally, idioms/phrases are rare on newer version of GRE but prevalent in big book, so do not worry much about them.
