So I was between A and E for this and ended up choosing A. For the first blank, I thought “delicately” fit better in context than “lavishly” because the evidence talks primarily about the attention to detail used in creating the article, and not about how extravagant it was. For blank two, between “vocational” and “everyday”, I couldn’t decide which was better because I thought both equally contrasted with “prayer or ritual”. Any explanation about why lavishly works better than delicately, or why everyday works better than vocational would be appreciated.

The correct answer is E btw.

You make a really good point honestly it’s hard to choose between the two, I can see myself choosing either of them.

I am thinking that “delicate decoration” doesn’t imply attention to detail, but it implies subtlety of decoration, which contrasts the idea of richness. That’s my guess though.

Both “vocational” and “everyday” is definitely okay for blank 2.
