Big Book test 5 section 6 Q27

How is the answer E? I thought consecutive means if the numbers follow some type of pattern like for example 1,2,3 or 2,4,6. I believe you can say 8 by the logic 4<6<8 which equals an even number when added up. However, by that logic can’t some of the other answer choices be right as well? Then it makes me doubt what consecutive truly means. Any help is truly appreciated.

Hey are you sure answer is E? , Because if x,y,z are consecutive and sum is even means there can be only one combination possible
x is odd
y is even
z is odd (As x,y,z are consecutive)

As all numbers are positive integers z cannot be 1 (As this will imply y=0 and x=-1) , SO answer can only be D
Can you please counter check

if x<y<z, then x+y+z=Even, check for first even sum from 1…
1<2<3 =6 even but we don’t have 3 in answer, so check different number
2<3<4= 9 that’s not even, check again
3<4<5 =12 it is even then z=5 so answer is 5 (D)

Yes, the answer is D! I am not sure where I got E from. Sorry about that. Does consecutive mean that is has to be one number apart only? Why can’t it be E where 4<6<8?

Do we have to check from 1? I think I am not fully understanding what consecutive means. If you could explain that be great.
