Hey @gregmat @HoldMyBeer
Could you please help me in understanding why the in the following question, we are choosing ‘lavish’ over ‘subtle’ in blank 1.
Reason: The sentence mentions exraordinary attention to and richness of **‘detail’. And the synonym that goes with detail is ‘subtle’ not lavish.
Lavish matches “richness of detail”
Understood! But then are we choosing to pay closer attention to ‘richness of detail’ over ‘attention to detail’ or just detail for that matter?
Asking because not sure how to identify what is the important phrase/word that will define the blanks here or in difficult questions similar to this one.
Yeah, we are paying particular attention to richness here. Even if we didn’t, is subtle really a great match for detail?
Why isn’t A correct? Cause vocational is the opposite idea of ritual, and delicate would have the same idea as attention to detail
I didn’t understand which word to pay more attention to “richness” or “detail”, also does it have something to do with the part of speech of the words, as one is an adjective and the other is a noun?
Does decorate delicately necessarily result in “richness of detail”? You could decorate “delicately” and still have just a few details.
If we use the meaning of delicate where it means intricate doesn’t it mean its detailed? I don’t think the usage is very common, but I was trying to stick with the meaning of the word.
Even if that is true, why is E wrong?
I will say , you guys maybe be missing the structure :
The structure is
“Something is made with extraordinary attention to detail”
: This means details are carefully analyzed , having less or more doesn’t matter here. All that matters is the details were given extraordinary attention.
“Something is made with extraordinary attention to richness of detail”
This means special attention and care was given for richness of detail. The prayer must have richness in its detail. that is main essence now. not that prayer must be given attention to detail, NO prayer be given extra attention for RICHNESS of details. if richness is not there , then its not a prayer what the question is intending. It must have RICH DETAILS
& with keeping richness in mind, I would say colorfully is very close as it also means vivid , rich eclectic but then I will use other attack point …
Article used in prayer vs article used in (non prayer activity ) , I have honestly no reason to believe opposite contrast of non prayer is festive, in fact , through non prayer stuff , I would just tag common , nothing esle, while it might seem non-prayer could be contrasted with others but I will go non-prayer means common than any other options and will tick E
OKAY I was not quite right as the sentence connected with AND so it is highlighting the prayer is done both (extra attention) to AND with (rich detail). so I guess I would hit E with prayer non prayer contrast
I don’t think E is wrong, I’m just confused how to choose between A and E?
Because delicately doesn’t match as closely to “richness of detail.” You could decorate something with little detail and do so “delicately” still. Also the word “vocational” is a bit odd here.
Yes because sentence initially lays out both the factor ,
- prayer is made of attention to detail & richness of detail
2, In SECOND SENTENCE however decoration is talked about so decoration is done with richness of contents and not the delicacy. so It lists out two thing in the beginning but use one of them as comparison for second sentence
