Big Book, Test 6, Section 1, Q4

In this question, I used the math strategy. The first blank was supported with the word “by,” hinting that the public events were “big” or “influential.” I guessed the second blank by using the contrast “however,” which indicated that the second idea concerns the events not being distorted. I had incorrectly guessed “memory.”

When looking at the answer choices, I narrowed my answers down to B and C, using the first blank. Since, my guess on the second blank was wrong, I could not decide between “majority” and “individual.”

I decided that “dramatic” was the better word, since “overpowering” would mean that there should have been distortions in writing.

The correct answer was C, not B.

Are dramatic and overpowering not the same word? Is this a problem of vocabulary or understanding the passage?

Thanks!

Hi, the first blank was fine, the issue was with Blank 2. Remember it talks about the currents of her PRIVATE life, the person recording her life is her biographer (individual), not the public (majority).

That makes sense! Thank you so much!
