Big Book Test 6: Section 2, Q:4

In Greg’s explanation, as biography can be recorded by only one person, hence all options can be ignored and answer would be C.

But is not last them implies events? which can be recorded by multiple people… No?

How I approached It:

  1. Culture cannot record biography hence option A is wrong.
  2. “by” before first blank implies support, and on left side “diverted, dislodged or twisted” all are bad words, hence first blank should be “bad public events”. Hence D is wrong.
  3. However implies contrast, which is already existing between, Diverted and Retain hence second blank should be synonym of Public so I chose option B. Because contrast was already existing.

May you help me Why my approach is wrong?

This one is tricky and I would’ve been stuck between B/C before going with B. But this is how I’d think through it.

First blank → private life is being “diverted, dislodged or twisted”. There is no evidence that it is “transitory” so we can cross out A. There is no evidence that it was “conventional” so we can cross out D. There is no evidence that it was “relentless” so we can cross out E. This leaves us with B and C.

There is no evidence for the second blank to be “majority”. And since we know it’s biography, we know that the second blank will have to be singular. Hence, “individual” is correct and C is the correct answer.
