Can someone explain how the answer is A?

4x is 9 greater than something. That means 4x = something + 9.

Now that something is basically “sum of x and 3y” or simply x+3y. So 4x=(x+3y)+9.

Simplifying, we get x = y + 3

Thank you. It was a classic case of not reading properly. I read it as 9 times greater: 4x = 9(x+3y). I see my error
