Q4) While I was doing the below question, I tried to practise copy paste technique. However, instead of copy pasting the word ‘not several‘ for the first blank, I used ‘not traditional or not based on methodologies’. And by some storytelling landed on answer D - ‘authoriative‘ (like a person promoting his/her own views). But after the answer check and analysing the question, I understand why the correct answer is E. My question is, how do I improve my copy pasting technique. Is there something I am doing wrong? How to get better at it?
Q7) For this question, I guessed the correct option B. But I can’t find a reason to eliminate option E - equivocal. For the blank, I guessed ‘drastic‘ and got an idea that the other things, like energy should be minimal. But equivocal, means unclear - that can also fit the blank - in the sense that increases can be huge or small. Can you help me with POE for this question?
for Q4, the “Despite” and “and so” leads you to assume that its a contrast sentence. because the second part of the sentence is focused on the philosophy drawing on multiple traditions, that means there are claims that his philosophy can be traced to a “Singular” source which means it has to be A, C, D, or E. Now that you’ve established that, you just go through each second word and see if it supports the second half of the sentence: derivative would only make sense if this sentence wasn’t a contrast sentence, consistent makes no sense, cogent makes no sense, so you’re left with E which makes sense. This question relies on you knowing what the words derivative, cogent, and eclectic mean
I think you get how we can copy / paste on #4 - you have to summarize the relevant idea without dropping important parts of it.
I.e., a good summary is “draws from several things” not just “draws from things”
#7 is what I’d call “Big Book logic” - this question is an example of why I would only use the Big Book to learn the basic of TC strategies and then spend 80% of my time analyzing the TC in the ETS OG and verbal books.
I.e. I don’t think the question behaves like the current test.
Thank you for your analysis.
Eventhough I totally agree with your approach, I am focusing on removing my dependency on the answer choices as the current ETS options differ from the big book. Therefore, the copy pasting method and analysing the question.
