Can SE have same word choices?

Hey Greg I have a doubt regarding the question below:

What poverty would exist in cities if selfishness and greed were not allowed to _____________ the earnings of others?
a. allocate
c. allocate

This question was taken from verbal problems on gregmat.com. I was wondering if the same options were a mistake or done on purpose. If it’s not a mistake then can we expect the same thing to happen on a real test where two SE words are the same?

which video lecture is this from ?

It is not from any video lecture. This question is from verbal problems that you can solve on Gregs website.

Here is the link to where you can find these type of questions.

I am struggling with the same question in the Skill building section for Support/Contrast (TC). Can someone help which is the keyword that decides if it is support or contrast?

Hi,

I just checked and for me the first option is “complicate”?

Lol, nvm I just realised this post was from years ago!

The answers were supposed to be allowed or allowed to as the blank is something that “selfishness and greed” would enable.

So allowed or allowed to implies RHS is something that LHS enables, so it would be a support.

Do you think this is a bad question? If so, we can change it.

I am intuitively able to arrive at the same conclusion for answer, however, which is the ketword that supports or contrasts the blank? That I am still unable to correctly pinpoint.

It should be “selfishness and greed”
