Hi guys
I’d been trying to use AI to make stories using the vocab mountain words. I’ve found this method super useful. Here’s an example -
The Conspiracy
Lucas was a cerebral (intellectual) and erudite (learned) journalist who had a proclivity (tendency) for uncovering the truth. He was not afraid to flout (disregard) the rules or challenge the authorities when he sensed something was amiss. He had a reputation for being assertive (confident) and meticulous (careful) in his investigations, but also capricious (unpredictable) and impetuous (impulsive) in his actions. He often acted on his hunches without verifying the facts or considering the consequences.
One day, he received a tip from an anonymous source that there was a conspiracy involving the mayor and a powerful corporation. The source claimed that they had evidence of corruption, fraud, and murder, and that they were willing to divulge (reveal) it to Lucas if he met them at a secret location. Lucas was intrigued by the story and decided to pursue it. He did not bother to ascertain (find out) the credibility of the source or the validity of the information. He was too eager to expose the scandal and gain acclaim (praise) for his work.
He followed the instructions of the source and drove to a remote warehouse at night. He parked his car and entered the building, expecting to find his informant waiting for him. Instead, he found himself in a trap. The warehouse was empty except for a group of armed men who ambushed him as soon as he walked in. They were hired by the corporation to silence Lucas and anyone else who might pose a threat to their interests.
Lucas realized too late that he had been duped. The tip was bogus (fake) and the evidence was fallacious (false). There was no conspiracy, only a ploy (trick) to lure him into a precarious (risky) situation. He had been too foolhardy (reckless) and naive to see through the deception. He had let his quixotic (idealistic) ideals and ambition cloud his judgment.
He tried to fight back, but he was outnumbered and outmatched. The men beat him mercilessly, breaking his bones and bruising his flesh. They taunted him with mordant (biting) remarks and mocked his journalistic integrity. They told him that he was a trifling (insignificant) nuisance who had meddled in affairs that were none of his business. They said that he would soon be forgotten by the public and that his death would be inconsequential.
They dragged him to a corner of the warehouse where they had prepared a makeshift grave. They threw him into a hole in the ground and covered him with dirt. They did not bother to check if he was still alive or not. They assumed that he would suffocate or bleed to death under the weight of the soil. They did not care about his fate. They were mercenary (greedy) and ruthless, devoid of any compassion or remorse.
They left the warehouse, satisfied that they had accomplished their mission. They did not notice that Lucas had managed to keep a small pocket of air around his mouth and nose by using his pliant (flexible) jacket as a makeshift mask. He was still alive, but barely. He felt an excruciating pain in every part of his body. He could not move or speak. He could only lie there, buried alive, waiting for someone to rescue him or for death to claim him.
He wondered if anyone would ever find him or miss him. He wondered if his story would ever be told or heard. He wondered if he had made a difference or wasted his life. He wondered if he had any regrets or hopes.
He closed his eyes and tried to calm his mind. He remembered the words of his mentor, an old and wise journalist who had taught him everything he knew about the profession. He had once said to him: “The truth is not always easy to find or pleasant to hear. It can be elusive and complex, obscured by lies and contradictions. But it is also powerful and liberating, capable of inspiring change and justice. It is our duty as journalists to seek it out and disseminate (spread) it, no matter how daunting (intimidating) or dangerous it may be. We must not be deterred by fear or doubt, but guided by courage and conviction. We must not be complacent (satisfied) or apathetic, but vigilant and passionate. We must not be obsequious (servile) or sanctimonious (self-righteous), but honest and respectful. We must not be bereft (deprived) of purpose or vision, but aspire to edify (educate) and enlighten.”
Lucas clung to those words as he lay in the dark, hoping that they would give him some comfort or solace. He tried to believe that he had lived up to those ideals and that he had not died in vain.
He tried to believe that there was still some truth in this world.
The above story covers about 30 words from the vocab mountain list. The idea is for all of us to use our creativity to generate stories, so as to cover all of the 840 words (vocab words in bold, their meanings in brackets). This could be a great way to build context and memorize these words.
