Compounding Interest

Hello, can someone solve this using the GRE calculator? There’s no exponent or roots button to help me solve it. Thanks!

Consider x = 6, so according to formula
amount after 4 years = 3000(1+0.06)power4 (multiply 1.06 4 times by itself)
that gives 3787, So the Final amount is > 3750. Hence the x value will be less than 6.
Therefore Answer is B.

The GRE calculator has a roots button.

Thank you!

I meant for roots of different powers apart from 1/2

You can find the roots for 1/4. 1/8 and so on by repeatedly finding the square root (for example, finding the fourth root is the same as taking the square root twice).

Thanks! I didn’t know that. Does this work for odd roots?

No, unfortunately. You may be able to reason on what the value could be though.
