Here’s the thing. GRE can be used as a way to boost your profile as a whole when your profile is not that strong. Many schools’ websites do encourage students to take it even if they claim that they waive it. But if you have very strong LOR, SOP or other accomplishments, say, research experience, super star company intership experience, or trophies from some compititions. then yes, definitely don’t spend time on it.
Also, what would you consider a good LOR? I have a very good relationship with my department chair and other strong alumni, but also know alumni from the grad school I’m considering…trying to decide what weight I give to one recommendation over another
I’m applying to schools in Canada and most of them unfortunately require the GRE for 2022 admissions. Are you talking about the US? For me if it wasn’t required hell no I wouldn’t take it.
Yes, I searched the top 7 schools in Canada offering the MBA program and they all require the GRE. My friend in accounting says the same applies for her major except for one school. They only waiver it if you have a CFA level 3 or whatever. As for language proficiency requirements yes they ask for IELTS or TOFEL, but that also can be waived if you’re from a native speaking country or have studied your Bachelor’s in English.
MBA is a distinct exception. In CS, only a few US colleges explicitly require it (one of which was Stanford) and a few others will consider it. In the UK, no college will require the GRE.
Anyway I got rejected from both US universities I applied despite having a 170Q, which further lends credence to the fact that GRE is a crap test for CS at least.
Ah, okay. That’s good to know. I might do that as well. I also feel that when GRE is exempt a lot more people apply than usual so I’m actually conflicted about how I feel. While I’m struggling with prep managing work and study, I also don’t know if I want a scenario where it is waived.
