Doubt about a question in TC and SE session 7

In my opinion narrative should be the answer here because the clue word for the blank should be political opinion and narrative matches to it the closest. The answer chosen in the video in polemical and it does not related to any part of the sentence as the first part of the sentence is saying that he never talks about political matters but now where it is said that he criticises/not criticises any political views and therefore the second part should be that his films just focuses of the aesthetics rather that the story and story = narrative = opinion.

Please let me know your views on it

Thanks,
Rohan

Hi, the colon denotes very close support. Now, we can rephrase the whole sentence to the left as “low politics”. Due to the support, the whole sentence to the right must give us sense of low politics. “Rather than” denotes contrast which acts as a “not” so blank should be something politics. The closet answer choice is polemical. Non other is similar to politics. “Narrative” is more leaning towards literature or cinema.

Another way to tackle is we don’t need to focus on first part. “Rather than” in second part denotes contrast. In the left there is aesthetic quality which is positive so due to rather than, the blank should be something negative. Looking at answer choice polemical is the only one which gives negative sense.
Dramatic might be negative too but there are many drama films that are taken as entertainment

we’re looking for a word that is in contrast with the world aesthetic or to put in a better way : contrast the with the idea of “aesthetic qualities”. On the other hand, the word "narrative " has a neutral connotation in it’s own and as we’re looking for a word that has a negative connotation; we can’t use "narrative " for the blank!
