Also, I am unable to comprehend how to reach the answer for the first blank. It is a contrast with the word “Unlike” but unable to point to a word that i should look for to get the answer

After Unlike we have {negative things} :-> So, our blank will be {postive} [Reason: Contrast!] but when you notice the blanks there is a Not before them , thus our logic change to {Negative words}, hence, whatever the blanks will be , it will be a negative pair of words!
