Doubt in Graphing Absolute Value Equations

Hello everyone!

This is question 2 from Graphing Absolute Value Equations Exercise. I had got this problem right. But I need to know if my method was correct.

For this question what I did was:

For option A & C are eliminated as they are not even quadratic equation.

For option B, I asked, Can inside expression be -ve?

i) So when x=0 inside expression is -ve

ii) Therefore 2 cases are possible

For option D, I asked can inside expression be -ve?

i) Inside expression can never be -ve

ii) Therefore no inverted parabola is possible.

iii) Because of which “W”shape isn’t possible.

For option E, I asked can inside expression be -ve?

i) Since -ve case is not possible we won’t have an inverted parabola.

ii) Therefore only 1 case only.

iii) Therefore no “W” shape graph is possible.

For option F, I asked can inside expression be -ve?

i) Since -ve case is not possible we won’t have an inverted parabola.

ii) Therefore only 1 case only.

iii) Therefore no “W” shape graph is possible.

For option G, I asked can inside expression be -ve?

So, no -ve case is possible. Therefore “W” shape is not possible as we don’t get an inverted parabola.

For option H, I asked can inside expression be -ve?

No -ve case is possible. Therefore only 1 case. Therefore “W” shape is not possible as we don’t have an inverted shape parabola.

It looks okay to me, but I’m not really a huge fan of the “can the inside expression be negative” trick.
