Doubt in support/contrast

I have a doubt with a question.
A misconception frequently held by novice writers is that sentence structure mirrors thought:convoluted the struture, the more _____ the ideas.
I thought because of the word misconception , the blank should be simpler , but greg told in his determining support/contrast part 2 at 58:00 that the blank is convoluted.
can you help me understand this.

Hi, so the first part of the sentence says that sentence structure ‘mirrors’ thought,
This the main idea of the first part which is explained with an example after colon.
Hence we use the word convoluted for the blank as well

got it, thank you

Here the answer choices are

  • complicated
  • engaged
  • essential
  • fanciful
  • inconsequential
  • involved

If I use pairing strategy for this question, I end up with engaged and involved as a pair

But the correct answer is complicated and involved

How can I avoid such traps?
