I am not able to understand why resolve is incorrect for first blank? The only reason I would eliminate resolve is because of Greg’s usage strategy …do u have any other reasons to eliminate it?

To “resolve” something means to find a solution to a problem or to make a decision about something. However, the sentence is not referring to a problem that needs to be solved or a decision that needs to be made. Instead, it is suggesting that the smallest human societies that have been identified do not match the popular image of primitive that anthropologists have in recent years.
