I came across this question(first week of math strategy ) @gregmat mentions there are no blanks in between the 2 opinions ( that of vasari and the other artists) i am having a tough time to determine why the second blank isn’t a contrast. Can someone explain me why Whereas is a trap too?
If ETS gives you a pair which is a opposite of each other than you’ll have a hard time not choosing it versus paying attention to the support provided after each blank
so you would suggest me to check the support/contrast only before the blanks?
what were the options and answer for this question btw?
I think it depends on question to question, for e.g. in this question you can use the whereas to know that the two blanks are opposite of each other but it will not help you that much than the support that is provided after each blank. All in all, you have to judge for yourself , which information provided in the question is helping you the most.
can you explain why ‘whereas’ is actually a trap here and why two blanks do not contrast here?
no options as it was only a part of determining support and contrast
There is a contrast, but it’s not very helpful in getting the answer. The contrast is the following:
One group saw it as the “reproduction of a natural object,” meaning they saw it as a direct reflection of reality and extremely clear.
The other group saw it as a puzzle that needed “deciphering.”
But notice how that contrast doesn’t really help us get blank 1.
Thanks a lot Sir for clearing my doubt!
