I feel here is a situation where the math strategy doesn’t work as well as the ear, since using this strategy results in the word threatening since it supports the idea dangerous.
“cool” while it makes sense, while it makes sense using the ear, wanted to see if there is a strategic method to solving this without using outside knowledge that criminals would be typically be considered cool
Sentence 1: He thought glorifying criminals is bad. (Negative)
Contrast Word: He criticized. which is a contrast. Normally, you don’t criticize someone if they agree with you.
Sentence 2: Dickens made thieves _____ (Positive)
I’m assuming by “the cult of the criminal” he means glorifying crime which might not be so obvious a non-native speaker. IMO, going by ear is grammar strategy lite I wouldn’t suggest it since most of the answers fit the structure of the sentence.
