Hey All,
Even though I got the answers right, I’d like some feedback on my process here because I found that the ETS explanations for some of these questions were a little bit different to mine and I apologize for the text being broken up the way it is.
For question 7,
A: Correct (line 20 says, “one meaning of intelligence…context of previous experience)
B: Contradicts text (line 10 says "ranges from free-floating awareness to a highly focused, active fixation”, that would suggest that even an intelligent animal could possess lower levels of focus at any given time)
C: No mention of “muscular coordination” in the passage
D: No mention of “competition:
E: No mention of any “ratio”
Question 9,
A: Incorrect (Line 25: “stimulates production of adrenaline and norepinephrine”)
B: Incorrect (Line 25: “stimulates production of adrenaline and norepinephrine”)
C: Incorrect (Line 33: “sensitive to possibilities in cold trails and distant sounds”)
D: Incorrect (Line 33: “sensitive to possibilities in cold trails and distant sounds”)
I thought that line 33 pointed at both a heightened sensitivity to stimuli and increase in selectivity to stimuli, though ETS used lines 12-13 (“sensitivity to novelty is increased”) for heightened sensitivity and lines 16-18 (“Arousal is at first general…activation is channeled” and “Thus begins concentration, the holding of consistent images”) for an increase in selectivity, would like to get some feedback on my elimination of options C and D
E: Correct, no mention of an expansion of the range of states
I think option E was so salient that I might have anchored on to it and looked for ways to eliminate C and D. Any feedback here would be appreciated!
