Question 1: For some reason here my brain went “revival” = more than one composers starting incorporating popular elements within their music. But I think I see why the correct option is correct and the wrong options wrong. Still, I want to get some feedback on whether I completely understand question 1 here:
A: The passage does not mention how the listeners responded to the music (initially was confused about this one because the passage does mention “high art for listeners”, but it would probably have be “high art to listeners” for us to be able to infer anything about its reception)
B: No mention of commercial success
C: No mention of what other composers did with their music
D: No mention of anything detrimental whatsoever
E: Cannot be derivative because the passage mentions explicitly that the music’s sound was “distinctively his” ( Missed this because I was looking for the word “derivative” in the passage and missed “distinct”)
As for question 3: I thought line six (“Popular elements… rock music”) was a good fit, because to me “sharing harmonies and rhythms” sounded like two ways of integrating rock and classical music.
Can someone point out where I went wrong with my thinking for for question 3 and provide some feedback as to whether I am on the right track with question 1? I’d appreciate the help. Thanks.
