ETS Practical Test 1: Sec3/ Verbal SE doubt!

I did the pairing but can’t quite understand why minimal or even remedial (somewhat awkard fit) are eliminated.
Maybe this is a repost, but do entertain this haha!

The sentence gives you some information…that reducing pumping rates would do something, and the aquifer would die with high pump rates. Kind of a block of 4: high pump rates kill the aquifer, low rates would save it, or at least reduce damage. Synonyms with not harmful are innocuous and benign.

minimal isn’t as good a fit as not harmful in this case, and remedial is a cure, so as you say, not great from a usage perspective.

Hmm, yeah that does make sense. I thought more about it and cause minimal and remedial are just not a pair while there are two others, they should be eliminated and then the explanation by you seem quite apt.
