Hello, from the boxplot I know that we are not able to definitively determine the relative sizes of median vs. avg. However, if the boxplot was perfectly symmetrical instead, would we have enough info to definitively say that QA = QB? Thanks!
All that a “symmetrical” boxplot gives is that the distance from the median to Q1 and Q3 respectively is the same. The problem here is that you know nothing about which values lie between the 25th and 50th percentile, and 50th and 75th percentile.
