Hi, I think the question is not much difficult. While reading sentences, I just put word ‘temporary’ in first blank and word ‘changes/replace’ in the second blank. The clues for both blanks are present in both sentences. In 1st sentence the clause " what preceded it by establishing a slightly different frame" and in 2nd sentence the clause "the transitions from one to another " clearly indicates that the book’s ideas are not coherent.
