Hello, I was watching the lecture video by Greg the other day on exponents and roots II. I don’t understand why is that Greg said the answer would be D. Clearly we have two quantities 8 and -8 for B and only 8 for A. Shouldn’t the answer be B as the larger quantity instead of D cannot be determined?
Thanks for reading my question!
Hello,
So the question doesn’t ask for the number of quantities of x or y.
It actually asks for the values of x & y.
Here, in case 1, assuming x=8 and y=8 the quantities will be same leading us to option ‘c’
whereas, in case 2, assuming x=8 and y= -8 Quantity A will be bigger leading us to option ‘a’
Hence, the answer to this question cannot be determined. Option ‘d’ .
