First Swing: V = 85th and Q=27th should I retake

Afternoon folks, I dont anybody, thats taken the GRE and thats tried to get into schools; and im having a hell of a time finding information…So Im not certain if I should try and take the GRE again, if im just spinning my wheels, or if I should try my luck with these scores. So I have a really mediocre GPA , 2.5 or somewhere around that, and only one research experience and letter of rec - work LOR. Now I have alot of credits from the mil and alot of CLEPs which are taken as credits, but arent given a letter grade so im not certain if they affected my GPA…The name of a school doesnt matter to me and im willing to move, my only preference is a psych or bio related program but all i really care about is seeing statistics - i want to do research…I do think I can do better as i was a little nervous and to be honest, I didnt even know my primes before studying for this test. I did take like 3 months to study but here again, i never did a piece of math homework as a child (unstable childhood)…I just dont know how heavily GRE scores are weighed and if they can compensate in the way im hoping…I was a Psych major. What do you guys think?

Do you’ve a potential list of schools ?

No not really…Im kinda figuring beggars cant be choosers…Ive gotten emails from, DePaul, “The Steven’s Institute”, CUNY, and one other but thats it- took the test in November (through the ETS school alignment service). Im willing to go to any of them but I suppose id prefer to get a school in Texas - Hazlewood Act.

Personal Opinion :

Try to list at-least 7-8 schools and divide it like this : 1 or 2 dream school(very hard to get in 10-20%), then next 3 are good(have 50-60% chances of getting-in) then the rest 3 (>80% chances of getting in). Don’t try the route of I will select the schools after I get my GRE scores-in as it puts in additional pressure on you to perform well plus you’ll have do this process anyways after you get the scores as GRE is just one of the criteria considered for admission. As soon as you made the list go to the professor’s website and try to take notes to use it for your application. Then start the process of cold-mailing people who are/ who graduated from your program to get an idea of how likely are your chances!
