I dont understand this …how can we have a negative sign under the radicand even though its allowed for √-2^2 = 2 since the output here is positive but in the pic it is a negative output and what is odd root …I dont see an odd number?
Hi, @user9842 Greg said negative numbers are allowed for odd roots, not odd numbers.
See, if you, √(-8) then in this case it is not possible as
√(-8) = [√(-2)x(-2)x(-2)] = (-2)x[√(-2)], so, observe here, we failed to extract the negative value from the root, which is not possible, but
In the case of cube roots, we can do it easily, therefore, negative values are allowed inside the odd roots,i.e, with radical = 3, 5, 7, etc
