Fractions ques 5lb book

Answer - 3/5

Can anyone explain how?

Two ways to think about it

  1. Take fractions as integers; 2. Assume a number as the total number of students. Typically, that number is LCM of all the numbers of denominators.

Suppose the total number of students are 48.
Fraction of students who are girls = 48*5/12 = 20
Fraction of girl students who took spanish = 48*1/4 = 12
Fraction of girls who took spanish = 12/20 = 3/5
