Full practice test beta 1 quant 2 (medium) question 14

I read this question as (6*(1/4))^(1/2). The solution suggests it is actually a mixed number, 6 and 1/4 (i.e., 6.25). Visually, how am I supposed to distinguish between an integer multiplied by a fraction and mixed number? More importantly, how would these two things be distinguished on the real GRE?

Thank you.

Nobody uses 6 \frac 14 to represent the multiplication of a number and a fraction. If they do want to do that then they’ll separate it with two parenthesis or an operator between them.

More importantly, see page 6 of https://www.ets.org/pdfs/gre/gre-math-conventions.pdf.
