Full Practice Test Beta 3 #Question 9 (Hard)

The wording “List A contains the first 12 positive even integers, with each number repeated twice” has led to some confusion for me as it could be interpreted in two ways:
a) It could mean that List A consists of 12 numbers, each repeated twice, resulting in {2,2,4,4,6,6,8,8,10,10,12,12}, which does not correspond to any answer options.
b) Alternatively, it could mean that List A includes {2,2,4,4,6,6,8,8,10,10,12,12,14,…,24}.

I am unsure why the second interpretation is preferred over the first. Could someone clarify this, as it feels somewhat vague? I want to ensure I avoid such confusion on exam day. Thank you!

The “12” refers to the first n positive even integers part of the sentence, not the list’s cardinality. In fact, the cardinality of the list isn’t even mentioned, so there is no reason to associate 12 with the total number of elements (cardinality) in the list.

The second interpretation is the right one.

I see your point but there is such a thin line between the two I mean
I feel wording can be improved but yeah thank you for clarifying.
