If the side lengths of ABC are 5,12 and z, is referring to the hypotenuse? Or does the solution hinge on the fact, that all of the three values are labelled as sides, so any other value than z could be the hypotenuse?
Otherwise, we only need to know the base and height of a triangle in oder to calculate its area. And in a right triangle the height is already given.
