GRE AWA - claim and reason

Can’t I support the claim but refuse the reason behind it? Should I always agree or disagree with both?

Hey, so, in general you can argue whatever you want, keeping in mind that your opinion is not actually a factor in the scoring. If you haven’t already, watch greg’s video: https://youtu.be/KSL3XXrFfH4?si=P8wglekMBQqNMCn2.

I’d say feel free to “support the claim but refute the reason given,” just be wary of vacillating (gre word) between opinions too much. Its a short essay in a short time frame. If you feel you can explain yourself strongly within those bounds, go for it. If not, consider simplifying your argument. Most of the time, a simpler assertion will be sufficient for a good essay score.
