GRE BB: Test 1 Section 1 Q3

There are, as yet, no vegetation types or ecosystems
whose study has been ------- to the extent that they
no longer ------- ecologists.
(A) perfected … hinder
(B) exhausted . .interest
(C) prolonged … require
(D) prevented … challenge
(E) delayed … benefit

I was facing problem with the above question between options A & B.
I’ve eliminated the following options according to grammar strategy:
C - require ecologists doesn’t sound right
D - prevented study doesn’t sound right
E - delayed study doesn’t sound right.

In Greg’s lecture, option A was ruled out on the same basis because “perfected study” won’t be a proper thing. But I wasn’t able to figure that out. Can someone provide more evidence for why B option to be selected other than A?

Why don’t you try to solve blank (ii) first, I eliminated A and C via doing that

According to me hinder too made sense.
Rephrasing the sentence using perfected and hinder:
As of now there are no vegetation types or ecosystems whose study has been perfected and they no longer (trouble / hinder) ecologists.

I look at these answers for the blanks as two extremes
