GRE Big Book Test #3 - Section 3 Question 6 - Verbal

Hey,

I’m pretty confused about this question. I got the answer right but “without forcing” throws me off. I did the five-step process and I believe I did the first blank correctly but the second blank is challenging for me. Why couldn’t the answer be B in this case? I feel like both answers seem very similar to me.

I think B is fine for Blank 2, I think it’s blank 1 where B doesn’t fit.

I end up with the same two choices, and I decide to rule out “universality” because I see “universality” as that of the practice, not the process or spectrum of the practice, which I think is what idea 2 is suggesting. I would pick universality if idea 2 concerns with the extent to which the practice is utilized by every field of study. Though unsure if I’m “storytellling” with that logic.

Could you please explain what you mean by this?

What I meant was that I ended up with B and E as my final two after eliminating the others (I did B2 first).

With B as a choice, I only compared B1:
B1: To test the universality of the practice
B2: test the limit to which terms from one field may be used by the other

I understand B2, specifically the “terms from one field may be used by the other” part, as part of a process/limitation of the described practice; for example, word A from field X may be used for field Y but not word B. This does not align with “universality of the practice” (= used by every field or happening everywhere) as well as “effcacy of the practice” (=effectiveness).

I thought “Universality” would be a better fit if B2 was about if the practice is used in many fields, so I eliminated B and chose E.

Yep, this looks good to me!
