GRE Big Book Test 6 Section 1 Question 6

No longer ------ by the belief that the world
around us was expressly designed for humanity,
many people try to find intellectual ---- for
that lost certainty in astrology and in mysticism.
(A) satisfied … reasons
(B) sustained … substitutes
(C) reassured … justifications
(D) hampered … equivalents
(E) restricted . . parallels

The way I think about this is that they are no longer restricted or constrained because they lost the ceratinty… so they are looking for substitutes or parallels. To me most of these options look similar. Could anyone be so kind to help? Thanks!

Blank 2 is good, for blank 1, if you look for replacements, what does that mean about the first thing. Are you happy with it?

Could you further clarify please? I am not sure I understand.

What do you need clarification on?

Please correct me if my deduction is wrong somewhere

question is of double possibility and first part is supporting second part with ‘,’ (comma), then the words of blank are similar in meaning or a synonym, looking closely first part has ‘no longer’ which acts as “not”, so these two blank becomes opposite to each other and only answer that are opposite in this context is sustained … substitutes, and to conform sustained , in second sentence there is ‘lost certainity’ opposite of ‘sustained’
