GRE Quant Question Error

Hi, I was doing the official GRE quant book as recommended by GregMat study plan.

Mixed practice set 3 question 3 is quantitative comparison (i.e., is A or B greater, the same, or we don’t have enough information).

The conditional statement is p = r^2 + t, where r and t are consectutive integers.

Quantity A: (-1)^p
Quantity B: -1

The book has the correct answer keyed as C - both quantities are the same. However, if t = -1 and r = 0 (consecutive integers), quantity A = -1, making the correct answer D, or we don’t have enough information.

Am I making an error in my reasoning here?

quantity A = -1

So -1 = -1, but that does not invalidate option C, does it?

LMAO I’m sorry this might be one of the goofiest math brain farts I’ve had
