GRE RC-Steroids Doubt

Hi everyone, i have a crucial doubt on progressing with the steroids tech that greg had advocated.
How do you identify the difference between an opinion and a fact? I get confused between them a lot of times ! A help would be much valued .

you can´t really disagree with a fact (at least not without being rude) but you can with an opinion. Opinion: Paris is the most beautiful city. Fact: I love Paris.

Ok, please clarify me on this . “The role of magazines as
arbiters of nineteenth-century taste is seen in their
depictions of the London theater.” This statement is an excerpt from a passage that greg has put a video on for steroids technique. He classified the statement as the main point which i had failed to and classified it as a fact when i tried out. How can we disagree with the statement so it is an opinion.

This is a claim the author of the passage is making. He is claiming that magazines’ impact as deciders of 19th-century culture can be supported by how they portrayed or talked about London’s theater scene. This is not a fact. Someone could argue against this and say something, like “actually it wasn’t magazines that decided culture, but it was in fact newspapers and their advertisements that dictated 19th-century taste.” We can have differing opinions on this claim.

Conversely, something like: “Magazines in the 19th-century wrote about London theater,” would be a fact. This can be proven by dredging up a primary source, like a magazine published in the 1800s with an article about London theater.

yeaah, i kinda actually get it now ! . This info is not quantified so we take it as opinionated , i guess

Well, could you take an argument against it? Could you argue that actually magazined served many functions, but influencing London’s theater culture wasn’t one of them? You can.

On the other hand, could you argue that a London arts magazine that had a column about theatrical productions, did not write about theater? You cannot.

yeah , i realize that now .
Thanks a lot man for the insight !
cheers

No problem. I think the more you talk through and reason with the verbal test, the more experience and confidence you build. For example, me explaining this to you is also solidifying my reading comprehension strategies as well. So thank you!
