Gre Reading comprehension approach help

Following the strategies discussed by Greg in the lesson videos , there’s a particular way I approach a reading comprehension particularly a long passage : I try to skim through words quickly , look for important words and structurize by identifying function of a sentence (also rephrasing understandable sentences)

Usually this approach helps and it works amazingly

But on a passage like this

The difficult language and continuous flow of the passage makes it super difficult to comprehend and structurize the passage

Hard to keep a relaxed mind while reading

Things like I’m still nowhere on my progress after 2 months of practice start coming up

Can you please suggest how to identify a particular passage quickly and the best strategy for it ?

Sometime ago I pasted a question regarding a PPP1 question where I faced a similar problem

Please provide suggestions on how to approach these?
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated

Usually i would skip important words like fragment while skipping the detail and looking for main idea. Usually it works but here it was very important for the structure of the passage apparently

How much time do you give yourself to read it ?

2-3 mins

Passages have two generalized strategies :

  • If its short then you can simplify sentence to sentence
  • If its long then get the main idea of each passage.

For example the passage that you’ve mentioned can be divided into Opinion → Support (eg)–> Conclusion → More support.

You can further see that we have a lots of dates mentioned in the detail (So, the author is trying to establish some sort of chronology ), thus you should make an account of those dates as you skim along.
