GRE Sadness :( 1 month to next date. Help!

Hi all. I took the GRE today, and my score was 166V, 152Q. For context, I had 4 hours of sleep the night before and already have issues with test anxiety.

I’m aiming for around 165 on both, so I’ve comfortably hit my stride in verbal. For quant, I’ve done the one-month plan, but stalled at around the last week due to issues with consolidating my foundation, so never did any strategy or timed test practice.

I have a little over a month until my next date, and that will be last chance to nail this before my applications go in for B-School. I really need some help to figure out what to do next.

This is my current plan:

  • Ensure my foundation is at 85-90% on brand new unseen foundation quizzes.
  • If not, work on the areas that need looking at.
  • Restart the one month plan at week 4.

Would it be possible to please advise on exactly what I should do maximise my scores? Before I was studying for over 6 hours a day solidly for a month. I wonder if I’m overdoing it?

Any help would be hugely appreciated. This is really my last chance.

Your current plan seems solid to me! Starting with a foundation assessment and then moving on to the strategy stage of the one (week 4) or two (week 5) month plan seems like a smart approach.

Sorry to hear about your test, I hope you feel better about it soon. Your quant score suggests foundation gaps, so you’re definitely on the right track.

Thanks @ganesh. Really appreciate all of the help we get on this forum!

Hi @ganesh, just to quickly ask, if I’ve taken all the Google forms quiz before, it would make more sense to skip those to assess my foundation as it stands now? I was going to do some quizzes that I have not taken across these categories to gauge where I am.

Hi, instead of the GF quizzes, can you take the GROUPED quant flashcards quizzes instead?

There are 5 of these, for Arithmetic, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Geometry and Data.

Hi @ganesh,

I got through them today; my GRE scores make a lot of sense now. Here are my scores:

  • Groups 1-4 Quiz - 75% (15/20)
  • Groups 5-6 Quiz - 87% (13/15)
  • Groups 7-8 Quiz - 57% (8/14) - yikes.
  • Groups 9-12 Quiz - 72% (13/18)
  • Groups 13-17 Quiz - 68% (15/22)

Should I now go through and practice the specific concepts that I got wrong in each of these? It seems like the priority should be:

  • Topics in 7-8
  • Topics in 9-12
  • Topics in 13-17
  • Topics in 5-8

Or should I do the entire “I’m Overwhelmed Plan” again? Seems I can skip topics 5-8?

Once I do that, do I need a whole new set of foundation quizzes to check my understanding is up to 85-90%… and if so, where do I find them? Or would it be better to just do the specific Quant Flashcards Quizzes?

And one last question, I find that I feel like I understand the Foundations, but I’m not sure that my approach or method is working. I remember the flashcards, but I’m not sure how to really make sure that I “get it.” Should I do more practice problems/quizzes to reinforce the topics? Or redo the questions again and again?

Thanks so much again for your help.

Go through the overwhelmed plan in the following way, for each part:

  1. Take the “Progress Quiz” on the right hand side first
  2. If you score <85%, then do the entire part again and take the quiz again
  3. If you score >= 85% just do the stuff on LHS for the questions you got wrong and re-do just those questions again

Thank you! I’m working through this now. I’m currently averaging around 92% for the progress quizzes, so if I continue in this way, should I move on to untimed practice, etc?

Just do all the progress quizzes first I’d say.

After you have covered the OW plan this way, check this video for next steps:

OK, will do. Thanks so much!
