GRE Score Lower than Practice Tests Scores: Advice?

Hi everyone! I’m new to the GregMat community and excited to be here. I took the GRE (at-home) on Saturday, and I was pretty disappointed in the unofficial scores I received at the end: Q152 V158 (310). I’ve been studying for about two months, and I’ve taken 6 practice tests total. On my last practice test, the PP1, I scored Q154 V163 (317), and in general, I’ve been scoring around 315 on Magoosh and the ETS official practice tests from the general guide.

I’m taking the exam again on July 17th, and I’m hoping to score closer to 320 overall, especially by boosting my verbal score, since that is my strong-suit. In order to do so, I am planning to do GregMat’s 1 month crash course.

Based on your experiences, do you think this preparation will suffice? In general, I used to study for about an hour each day (5 days a week), but I am preparing to do much more (4 hours a day 7 days a week). I would really appreciate any advice you could share.

Thank you!

I’ll just use the 310 if I were you. Use that saved time to do some other meaningful things instead. Over 3 months of prep is a waste of time. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you, I appreciate that a lot. I think I’m going to still prepare, because I know that I’m capable, but remembering that balance between GRE and life is everything!

I mean ofc you have that ability if you study 4h/day without rest before the test day. But a 335 GRE won’t get you into Booth or Yale right? This is why I think not that necessarily spend too much effort on this. Up to you ofc. Good luck. And enjoy that balance.

Oh totally, in all honesty, everything else is more important! Thank you again.

Wait for your diagnostic report.

Okay, thank you! Then, would you recommend curating my preparation based on the particular types of questions I missed?

It depends. See the retaking video at GRE Time Management - GregMat.

Thank you!
