GRE Score Scaling

I took my 2nd power prep test today and my sectional score for verbal was as follows:

Section 1: 7/20.
Section 2: 16/20.

And the score came out at 150/170 in verbal. (which implies -3 in the verbal section)

Now I know that the free power prep test’s software is a bit off but can someone please explain how exactly scaling works in actual GRE especially in the verbal section.

As per my information :
If you score <=6 in 1st verbal section; -4 and next Easy verbal section will open.
If you score <=13 in 1st verbal section; +2 and next Medium verbal section will open.
If you score >13 in 1st verbal section; +4 and next Hard verbal section will open.

But in my case, this thing didn’t follow up on ETS mock, hence want some confirmation.

Thanks in advance.

You probably got the easy second verbal, as 7 is the borderline between easy-medium.

Oh okay, so you mean that this scaling that ETS has done is correct?

Hey @HoldMyBeer, in this video Greg clearly mention you have to get atleast 7 to get a medium section and in my case i got that 7, then why i still incurred that penalty. Any thoughts ?

I think because the software put more emphasis on section 1 then section 2.
