Gre - tricky synonyms - se questions on real gre

It’s true that many of the questions will have synonyms as answer pairs. There are questions, however, where this is not the case and simply looking for synonyms will not yield the correct choices. Remember that the instructions for this question type ask you to find two words that would yield two sentences alike in meaning.

Is this true? We can choose “almost” synonyms if they results into two sentence which are alike in meaning???

or shall I always go for two synonyms in my ans???

Almost in 99% cases, you have to choose a pair of synonyms.

But the trouble arises when some words seem to have a different meaning than that of what we have used to be known of. For example,

qualify, limit ( a synonym pair)

But it doesn’t necessarily seem a synonym pair. So, it boils down to the usage of the word in that particular context.

So, to be adept at SE questions: read a lot (like Non-fictions), revise the GregMat List everyday, read synonym list provided by gregmat, and practice vocabulary test from gregmat.com or vocabulary.com.
